Kitty Concerto

Book Club

This page is dedicated to the many books I am reading, am about to read, or just have read.  It will be updated when needed.  Please comment if you have read these books or have any good suggestions as to what I should begin next.

Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall

—true story about Warren Jeff’s neice and her life as a polygamist wife.—

Twilight, New MoonEclipse and Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer

—trilogy involving a love sick teen and her vampire boyfriend.  these books pushed Harry Potter out of the #1 spot.—

I was totally enthralled with all three books.  Technically they were written for teens, just like Harry Potter was written for children, but they capture the adult attention quickly and never lets it go.  They are in production for the movie right now.  Click IMDB to see the cast pictures.  Interesting choices. I’m not so sure I’m in agreement of their cast, but I’ll wait till the movie comes out in December for my full review.

If you have read them and want to discuss, let me know!!!

 Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

—intricate weavings of the many view points during a horrific school shooting—

Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella

—a woman gets into a car crash and can’t remember the last 3 years of her life.  She has completely changed herself and has no idea how she came to be.—

If you like any of Sophie’s previous books, any of the Shopoholic series, you will probably enjoy this light read as well.  It’s romantic without being totally cheesy.

Tail Spin by Catherine Coulter

—more murder and mystery adventures for FBI agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock.—

Eat This Not That by David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding

—quick study about swapping really bad junk food for less bad junk food.  for example, 2 sausage egg muffins have less calories than one whole wheat bagel and cream cheese.  scary—

Well, I gave Breaking Dawn three stars on Amazon. I don’t like that Bella just took to being a vampire so easily, I would have liked to see how she sweat it out. I liked the idea of Nessie, but not how the character was presented. The ending was wayyyy too rushed and I think Stephenie Meyer should have spent more time on that and less time on Bella and Edward having sex (though I’m not complaining, because that was kind of HAWT, and surprising considering she’s Mormon). I think the scene with the Volturi was very disappointing, considering the lead up.

However, I still love the way the author paints the picture and I’m glad that Bella ended up with who she ended up with. I never liked the other guy that much.

[Mrs. Kitty] I agree that the ending was sorta disappointing considering the lead up. Although I am one for a happy ending. And Holly and I couldn’t agree more that it just seemed a little tooooo convenient that Bella was spared being a newbie. Hmmmm. Bella absolutely should have ended up with who she ended up with. Although imprinting on Nessie?!?! Whoa. Actually, just the fact that there was a Nessie was crazy. I’m disappointed that this will be the end, because she left it WIDE open for another book(s).

Here is part of what I wrote and never published:

I think she made a valiant effort, but got lost along the way. Too many new story lines, too many loose ends to tie up, which ended up being tied a little too efficiently. The characters responses to things lacked where they previously hadn’t in her effort to tidy up everything, including the new storyline, in 700 pages. I don’t want to say I was disappointed with this book, but I wasn’t overly excited about it when I finished. Instead, I wished this wasn’t the last in the series, because I didn’t want it to end on that note. I liked the ending, but I didn’t like how we got there and I wished there was more to it. The Twilight series has been one of my recent favorite reads and I was sad to see it go to begin with. This did not help matters.

And the thing with the older man *imprinting* on an infant? It made me uneasy.

I realize this entry will be useless to anybody who has no idea about the Twilight series, but I bet there are a few of you out there that know exactly what I’m talking about.

There is a movie coming out in December, gleaned from the first book, and so far it looks extremely disappointing. The characters are utterly unconvincing (at least in the trailers). I am so glad the author only signed the rights to one book, because this could get really ugly. I won’t knock it until I see it though.

I am not happy about the choices with the movie. I think it’s going to be a flop, it doesn’t look well made at all.

[Mrs. Kitty] I love book discussions!!! :) It was pretty tidy, although I was completely nervous that it would not end on a good note. But with all of its tidiness, there NEEDS to be another (couple) of book(s). I mean, just look at Jacob and Nessie? That needs to come to fruition. Imprinting with an infant seemed weird, so she needs to leave a normal (if you can call it that) relationship. I would love to see what happens there.

I’m definitely sad to see this series go. I was so excited and haven’t been this invested in a set of characters in a long time. Goodbyes are so hard!

I have not heard ONE person say they think the movie will be great. Not one! I don’t have a lot of faith in it. Poor casting+Poor director=Bad Movie. It sucks because they had a great story on their hands. I hope upon hope they don’t mess it up.

So I am definately adding a few of these to my must read list. I will have to follow up with you!

[Mrs. Kitty] Yippie! I love books, and love people who read books so we can talk about books. I say books a lot.

I love that you are enjoying the Catherine Coulter FBI novels!!! If you want hot vampire sex scenes, I recommend the “Undead” series by Mary Janice Davidson. Really light read, she writes like people talk these days, and her romantic rendezvous are so descriptively written that I need a cold shower after reading them! And I also recommend the “In Death” series by JD Robb and anything by Heather Graham.
